NEWS and NOTICES
Information about Kingsway-Lambton United

You presence is a blessing to us. We hope our church family will be a blessing to you. We welcome you to our service and hope you will take a moment to make yourself known to one of the ushers, greeters, or ministers. If you are interested in becoming a part of the Kingsway-Lambton family, you invited to sign the welcome card in the pew or contact the Church office. Please come again!

If you know of anyone, of any age, who is in need of pastoral care, or is in hospital, simply contact the Church office. The ministry of our Church involves everyone, and your willingness to share in this ministry is most appreciated! .

Hear the Word
Seven members of our congregation have become regular users of our Sennheiser® system. The dynamic headphone transducers ensure a natural and transparent sound reproduction. The headset is extremely easy to use and the frequency response is adjustable to the listener's hearing. Headphones are available from the ushers in the Narthex. Why not improve your worship experience by giving it a try? We request they be returned to the Narthex at the end of the service. Thanks.

Prayer Binder
Please write your prayer requests in the white binder, located in the narthex (main entrance to the sanctuary.) This is brought forward with the offering, and Rev. Hugh prays each request during the prayer time. You may include a first name and a brief description of the concern, if you wish.

Partners in Prayer
A group of people gathers each month to share the concerns of our church family in prayer, and to continue praying each day for those whose names have been given to us. We invite you to let us know if we may pray for you, or someone you love, are concerned for, or struggle with. You don't have to give a name if you don't want to. Someone will be praying for you every day all month. You may call or email the church office, or speak with a minister.

The CD's Are Here!
Sunday Services are now recorded on CD's and are available for purchase ($3.00) or for borrowing during the week, from the Library. Recording onto CDs ensures a rich quality of sound and allows those traveling by vehicle to play them 'on the road'.

If you're new to the library, a great place to start is with the List of Recent Purchases. There are some terrific new novels and DVD's.

Good Food Box Program
You may be interested in participating in this program if you like: quality produce at an affordable price, to support local farmers and a variety of fresh fruits & vegetables. The program runs like a large buying club. Individuals place box orders with Stonegate CHC staff and receive a box brimming with fresh, tasty produce. The health centre accepts orders on an ongoing basis. Orders need to be filled out, and paid for, the Tuesday of the week prior to each delivery. Deliveries occur every two weeks. For more information about the program, or to place an order please contact the Stonegate CHC and speak with: Samantha O'Brien, samantha.obrien@stonegatechc.org / 416-231-7070 x270, or Julia Graham, julia.graham@stonegatechc.org / 416-231-7070 x229.

Farm In The Village
Farm In The Village is a new program offered by Etobicoke’s PACT Urban Peace Program offers an opportunity for Youth-at-Risk to learn new skills and contribute to community through a community garden that will be growing vegetables for local food banks. This community garden is located at 3879 Bloor Street West, corner of Bloor and Acorn Avenue, west of Kipling.

Farm in the Village had its opening on Saturday, May 29 with community participation, music and food. PACT is transforming a large unused urban space donated by the local business community into a living classroom experience where youth, local residents, mentors, parents and community leaders will bring awareness to a key social issue in our community and create an enduring bond of peace.

This urban agricultural initiative involves a 14,000 square foot community vegetable garden that will provide as much as 10,000 pounds of fresh produce for needy families in Etobicoke. Although the majority of vegetables grown will be donated to local food banks, volunteers who work at the garden will be able to share in the harvest.

Youth-at-Risk participating in this project will have an opportunity to develop self-knowledge, self-esteem and learn new skills of teamwork, communication, leadership……and patience. It will be a life-changing experience for youth in our community. For more information, contact Justin Di Ciano, 416-251-3025.

Stonegate Farmers’ Market
The Stonegate Farmers’ Market was initially a market pilot project implemented by Community Food Animators at FoodShare, the Stonegate Community Health Centre, and the Stonegate Community Ecumenical Ministry. The market was set up to tackle food insecurity issues in the Stonegate neighbourhood. With the success of the pilot and farmers on board, the market became a full-fledged farmers’ market in its second year, with the Stonegate Community Health Centre taking the lead in organizing and running the weekly event. Since then, the market has fallen under food access programming at the health centre, and is still seen as a joint venture supported largely by community organizations, churches and residents as well as members of the Stonegate Food Access Committee, St. James’ Humber Bay Anglican Church and funding from the Food Security Investment Program.

The Stonegate Farmers’ Market targets food insecurity and social isolation issues in the Stonegate community. Focusing on alleviating hunger and improving access to food, the market offers fresh produce to area residents who otherwise must depend on the one large, mainstream supermarket in the area that is accessible by residents without means of transportation. Park Lawn Road, where the market is located, is seen as a dividing line between an affluent neighbourhood and lower income community. The customer base at the market comes from both sides of this dividing line, bridging the community together and helping to provide local residents quality, locally-grown produce in the neighbourhood, with a venue where the Stonegate community can come together and connect.

The Market runs June 22nd to October 5th. The Market is located in the parking lot at Christ Church St. James’ Anglican Church, 194 Park Lawn Road, just north of the Queensway, next to the Humber Bay Library.

Flame Conference
"Here I am Lord" is the theme for this year's Flame Conference - October 22-24, 2010. The conference is a time of learning, worship, small groups and shared meals with a group of about 120 men. Focused on four talks by Anglican guest preacher, Reverend Richard Tanner. The conference will explore our response to God's gracious call. Contact Steve Prime for details or explore the website at www.flameconference.ca
