  Christmas Pageant

Pageant Week
November 30 to December 3, 2010

7:00 P.M.

All welcome!

The telling of the Christmas story began as a modest Church School event. It developed into a musical evening under the guidance of Dr. and Mrs. C.H. Dickinson and was presented by the Junior Choir. A script was written in 1945 by the Reverend Dr. Wilfred Lockhart. Throughout the years the pageant has had some slight changes and additions but remains true to its humble beginnings. Since 1945, the pageant has grown into what is now a full-scale nativity play with two complete casts over four nights.

A special opening scene between a mother and her children was brought back into the script in 2007. Due to its overwhelming success the pageant will open again with this highlight. Four significant members of our church family will honour us by beginning the pageant in this manner.

This year's pageant was organized under the co-ordination of Katie Overstrom and Laura Turner (Sparkle and Joy) with the help of Karen Grys, Janine D'Ippolito and Jayne-Ann Steele. We were fortunate to have the impressive talents of Sharon Burlacoff as our Music Director for her fourth year. Darryl Martin continues to help our children shine with his lighting expertise.

We warmly welcomed back Gerald Fantone. His patient, kind directing style brings out the best in all the children. The 2009 production involved over 140 young actors and over 100 adults and teen volunteers. Many of the volunteers return year after year to lend their talents and their enthusiasm to the telling of "A Child is Born."

Detail from the Durrant window.
Please take a moment to appreciate the stain glass window located in the Chapel hallway. This nativity scene was erected to honor all those who share in our Christmas Pageant tradition. This window, a gift from Eugene and Helen Durrant, was dedicated on Sunday, December 14th, 1980.
