HOW TO GIVE
From KLU Guide to Events, Service and Ministries 2008
Ways to Give as Stewards in God's Mission
Christians are freed and called to participate in God's mission, and as Stewards, to use, in thanks, all that God gives us-time, abilities, material resources, relationships-in a lifestyle of discipleship. Stewardship is not about balancing church budgets, but life-enhancing balance in our lives and world. At Kingsway-Lambton, there are many ways in which we can invest in this call to be Stewards of Life. Many of us use our time and talents to participate in the activities and committees outlined in this guide. Others participate through generous donations to Church ministries or outreach ministries, local and global. For those able to make financial contributions, below is a listing of areas of consideration.
Local Church Offerings
Our weekly offering contributions support the local church ministry at Kingsway-Lambton. Church envelopes are available from the Church office. Others prefer automatic pre-authorized bank account withdrawals to make their contributions. It takes about $1,200 per member household annually to fund these ministries and operating expenses at Kingsway-Lambton. Tax receipts are issued.
United Church of Canada Mission and Service Fund
The M & S Fund supports overseas projects and crisis response, enables Canadian outreach, funds hospital and university chaplains and small congregations, assists ministry interns and more. You can make contributions through your weekly church envelopes. More information is available on the United Church of Canada website at www.united-church.ca
The Benevolent Fund
The Senior Minister administers a fund to provide emergency assistance to people in need and special support to agencies that serve those in crisis. People approach our church daily seeking help. Your donations to Benevolence are welcome any time.
Memorial Gifts and Bequests
Many individuals remember Kingsway-Lambton in their wills and through gift annuities. In addition, the church receives financial donations in memory of individuals. These funds are used to assist in our mission as a congregation and have helped fund many capital projects over the years. For further information, contact the Chair of the Memorial Gifts and Bequests Committee.
Special Project Funding and Outreach
Our Church often has special projects, which inspire individuals to contribute financially to realize a dream. Our recent redevelopment of the West Entrance, the elevator, and construction of accessible washrooms has been one such dream come true. A debt remains on this fantastic Open Access Project, and contributions to this mission are still very welcome. The Church office can discuss your contribution.
Outreach Activities
This guide is full of descriptions of other specific Outreach projects, which support activities and ministries locally and abroad. Contact information is available for each of these worthwhile ministries.
Gifts of Donated Securities
Of particular interest to some is the recent change in federal tax legislation, which makes it attractive to those selling publicly traded securities where a capital gain has been realized. There are significantly reduced taxable gains if the security is donated to Kingsway-Lambton prior to it being sold. Please contact the Church Administrator who will put you in touch with the appropriate person to discuss this tax strategy that benefits our church and the taxpayer.
