Theme:
The Baptism of Christ by John the Baptist
Description:
Note the way the
artist has portrayed Jesus' feet in the water.
The figures of Christ and
John The Baptist are handpainted and kiln fired. The design is a stock
pattern that dates back to the turn of the century. This type of painting
requires at least two kiln firings, sometimes three. The face and hands
of the figures are painted separately in a process that is so delicate
it uses the technique of extracting paint with a needle. This is what
give the flesh areas of the body their fine texture and photographic
detail.
