Our
Vision
Sunday School at Kingsway Lambton United Church aims to
provide a safe place for nurturing, caring relationships that reflect
the love of Jesus. Sunday School encourages and values exploring
the Bible and asking questions. This is a place that teaches your
life has meaning and to never doubt how much you are loved. .
Our
Sunday School Program
Beginners
(age 2- 3) and The Junior and Senior Kindergarten aged children
meet in designated group settings on the East End of the Church
Building. Their program is based on a combination of the Witness
curriculum and the Lectionary-based plan for the children’s’
ministry as a whole. The experienced leaders of these groups incorporate
tactile and large motor skill motion activities as well as music
and story in order to fulfill the mission of the Children’s
and Youth Ministry Vision Statement.
Grades
1-6 begin their group time together on the lower level in the
Club Room for Worship Circle, which includes singing together, the
offering; prayer and a short keynote presentation. Then they divide
into groups and take turns being shepherded through any number of
activity-based centres such as the Arts & Crafts Corner, the
Drama Den, the All Star Theatre, Chapel Central and Kid’s
Kitchen, where Science and Cooking happen. All the activities are
linked to the main Bible- based theme of the day and are geared
to engage the mission of the Children’s
and Youth Ministry Vision Statement of Kingsway-Lambton Church.
The Rotation Schedule for this group runs as such.
Grades
7 and 8 meet in their own youth space in the Prayer Tower.
Their program is designed to provide an engaging exploration of
all aspects of the Christian Faith (Bible, Triune God, Stewardship,
Worship, Church, Outreach and service), as well as personal beliefs,
hands-on Christian service and spiritual enrichment. A variety of
age-appropriate learning styles are engaged through art, drama,
discussions, journal writing, music, art and games.
A program
for grade 9 students and older will soon be under way; meeting
once a month during Sunday Morning worship; and providing opportunities
for deeper faith reflections alongside community action and outreach
.
Family
Worship Time occurs during the first 20 minutes of the 10:00
a.m. service. This time together allows the entire congregation
to worship as one "Family of Jesus Christ", and for the
young people to play an active role in our morning Worship service:
- Participating
in the Children's Story on the steps of the Chancel
- Assisting
with the call to Worship during the seasons of Advent and Lent
- Pouring
of the water into the Baptismal Font during Baptisms
- Reading
Scripture during Sunday School Month (February)
- Laying
of the Wreath during the Remembrance Day Service
How
Sunday School Works
Church Sunday School and Nursery Care are offered during
the 10:00 a.m. service of Worship and are located on all three levels
of the church building. There is an exciting and meaningful program
for children and youth of all ages.
Each week a team of dedicated volunteers provides Christian Educational
Programming for children and youth.
What
a Typical Sunday Looks Like
September
through May
Families usually
arrive between 9:45 a.m. and 9:55 a.m.
For children
ages birth to 2, some parents choose to take them directly to Nursery
Care (located on the lower level), while others might take them
to Worship first and then Nursery Care later. It is left up to the
discretion of the parents.
Children in
Beginners (age 2-3), and Kindergarden (JK SK) are taken to their
classrooms, located on the East Side of the building. Enter through
the east doors, head up or down the stairs and turn right . And,
when all have gathered, they are led up to the Sanctuary by the
teachers for the first 20 minutes of Worship.
All other
families (with children/youth in Grades 1-8) head to the sanctuary
where they worship together for the first 20 minutes.
After the
Children’s Time and the Lighting of the “Good News”
Candle, all Sunday School students head to the lower level to continue
the morning program.
Summer
Sunday School
During the
months of July and August, a Video Program is available during the
10:00 am Worship service. It is offered to children of all school
ages.
New students
are always welcome. For more information about Sunday School and
Youth programs at Kingsway-Lambton, please contact
Rev. Maryann Skinner.
Name Tags
We are working towards having Sunday School name tags for all the
children and youth. Currently there are several created and they
are hanging on hooks as part of a really cool "We Belong"
poster in the lower hallway. When you arrive at church you are invited
to include, in your routine, a trip to this banner on the Lower
Level to pick-up your name tag before the Worship Service begins.
This will help make a smooth transition for all the children and
youth later in the morning when they gather for their Sunday Morning
Group Sessions.
Safety
At All Times
Please
note the following safety procedures practiced within our Sunday
School and Church. :
- If you
have children in Beginners and or JK /SK , we ask that you pick
them up from their classroom. Older aged children can be met by
a parent in the auditorium, or gymnasium.
- Each teacher
is required to complete a Volunteer Application Package, which
includes a Police Check.
- The cookies
served at Coffee Hour, and during selected class times, are nut-free.
- An Epi-Pen
is available on site in a well labelled area.
- Each Fall
the entire church family participates in a Fire-Drill to ensure
that in the event of a fire, all children (infants to teens) would
be safely led from the church building.
