Be doers of the word, and not hearers only." James 1:22
Kingsway-Lambton seeks to live out the message to "do" the Word. We have several groups within our church that engage with and care for people outside our church. We do this by:
- Raising funds for charities
- Supporting charities non-financially - providing goods and/or time
RAISING FUNDS FOR CHARITIES
Ukrainian Newcomer Task Force
In Summer 2022, this task force, in partnership with a townhouse developer in Brampton, very quickly set up homes for several Ukrainian newcomers. Four townhomes were outfitted with donated furniture, bedding, kitchen acoutrements. Financial donations poured in to cover rent for 3 months on all 4 homes. In all, 31 people from Ukraine across 6 families are happily settled in Brampton because of these efforts. To hear a thank you message, Watch Video
The Benevolent Fund is administered by the Coordinating Minister to provide emergency assistance to people in need or to agencies that serve those in crisis. The congregation is asked to support this fund annually during the Christmas season.
Community Outreach Committee
The Community Outreach Committee organizes fundraisers to raise money for agencies in our community including: Lake Scugog Camp, The Gate House, Youth Without Shelter, Stonegate Ministry, Out of the Cold, and Parkdale Golden Age Foundation.
Mission & Service (M&S)
At Kingsway Lambton, members may designate an amount towards the United Church of Canada's M&S Fund as part of their annual pledge and on their offering envelopes throughout the year. These funds go to support ministries and programs in Canada and around the world. For details, click here.
United Church Women (UCW)
The UCW oversees fundraising events such as the Flea Market and Art Show, and other ongoing fundraising such as funeral catering. With the funds raised each year, we support several local, regional, and national charities. Some of the funds raised are also used to assist with the finances of the church.
SUPPORTING CHARITIES NON-FINANCIALLY
Members of Kingsway-Lambton serve the broader community through work focused on a particular need. We support a variety of charities by contributing goods and/or time. (Note: We also support some of these causes financially.) The groups that support charities in a non-financial way include:
The Warmth Initiative
In the Fall of 2020, 2021, and 2022, The Warmth Initiative responded to the urgent need of Toronto shelters for warm clothing. Donated coats, jackets, sweaters, socks, hats, and mitts/gloves were collected throughout October and provided to downtown Toronto shelters such as Fred Victor Centre (www.fredvictor.org)
