Fresh Start is an early morning Sunday service that has a modern, informal style. Doors open at 8:10, with coffee and snacks in the sanctuary to help you start your day. We begin at 8:30, and end at 9:15, with lots of time for coffee and conversation afterwards.
The service is popular among early risers, including parents with small children, and parents with teenagers, who are at home sleeping in. It also appeals to people who like the idea of having church finished early in the day. We have child care in our nursery down stairs for the little ones.
The music is provided by Ian Grundy, and leans towards a more contemporary sound for Fresh Start. We sing to old favourites and more modern hymns. (To get a taste of the music see the video below, our tribute to the passing of Aretha Franklin).
The service is designed to be more interactive than traditional services. Ministers give a shorter sermon, and there is time for an engaging discussion among congregants during the service. After, ministers are available for a Q&A session, over coffee and snacks. Our presiding minister is Rev. Sam Needham, who provides a relaxed and friendly feel. The service also has frequent guest preachers, drawn from the Kingsway-Lambton United Church family of ministers, and outside ministers.
If you’d like to get a taste of the service, please check out our videos here, and on our Kingsway-Lambton United Church YouTube channel. You can also receive regular updates from us on our Facebook page (freshstartsundays) and our Instagram (@freshstart.kluc). We hope you’ll try us out some Sunday.
The Fresh Start service is made possible thanks to funds supplied by Kingsway-Lambton United Church and a grant from the United Church of Canada.
