Kingsway-Lambton United Church recently gathered in gratitude to celebrate and thank Reverend Don Gibson for his time with us—a time that, while relatively short, has left a lasting and meaningful impact on our church community.
When Don first joined us during a snowstorm—his very first service held online with only a handful present—we could not have imagined how quickly he would become such an integral part of our church family. In a season of transition, he brought with him not only experience and wisdom, but also warmth, humour, and a steady, reassuring presence.
Over the course of his ministry, Don has exemplified a deep and thoughtful faith shaped by years of reflection, experience, and service. Through his preaching, he brought scripture to life in ways that were both relatable and meaningful, often leaving us with insights to carry into our daily lives. His wisdom—gained through decades of ministry across Canada—has enriched our congregation in countless ways.
Beyond the pulpit, Don’s impact has been felt throughout every aspect of church life. He offered calm and steady leadership to Church Council, thoughtful guidance to staff, and compassionate care to our congregation. He recognized needs before they were spoken and responded with kindness and initiative—whether strengthening pastoral care, supporting worship planning, or helping us return to full and vibrant services.
Don’s ministry extended deeply into the life of our community. He took time to visit those unable to attend in person, ensuring they remained connected and valued. He inspired children to participate fully in worship, meeting them at their level with genuine care and encouragement. From Christmas Eve services to Bible studies, from outreach initiatives to community events, his presence brought both depth and joy to all we shared together.
Throughout the year, Don also reminded us to look beyond ourselves—to remain connected to the wider community and the world around us, and to live out our faith with purpose and compassion.
In a time that could have felt uncertain, Don helped ground us. Because of his leadership, we move forward with confidence and hope, well-prepared to welcome our new minister, Reverend Chris Fraser.
We are deeply grateful that Don chose to extend his time with us, guiding Kingsway-Lambton to where we are today. As was beautifully said during our celebration, he arrived in a storm and leaves us with a bright and hopeful future.
Don, thank you for your wisdom, your kindness, your humour, and your faithful leadership. You have touched many lives, and your presence will be felt here for years to come.
As we say, until we meet again, we wish you a joyful and well-deserved retirement filled with rest, travel, and continued blessings for you, Brenda, and your family. Please know you will always be a cherished part of the Kingsway-Lambton church family.
