POSITION TITLE: Minister of Care and Community
POSITION PROFILE: Full-time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Delivers pastoral care for all members/adherents of Kingsway-Lambton
Provides spiritual leadership to the Kingsway–Lambton community by presiding over the Fresh Start service (or alternative*) and other faith-based activities
Leads and guides the Kingsway-Lambton community on outreach and community engagement, ensuring that church events are properly supported by volunteers
Participates in the church’s other events and programs in collaboration with the Lead Minister
Engages with Shining Waters Regional Council and/or General Council
Working with the other members of the ministerial team, Minister of Care and Community will ensure that services and programs are consistent with the Church’s vision and mission.
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND ASSOCIATED DUTIES:
PASTORAL CARE: ~25%
• Ensures that sensitive and appropriate pastoral care, is provided to the congregation
• Puts special emphasis on the needs of seniors, conducts hospital visits as needed
• Collaborates with the Lead Minister and Church Administrator to inventory and assess the pastoral needs of the congregation
• Guides the Care Team as they seek to maintain meaningful connection with members of the Kingsway-Lambton faith community who may require extra support
SPIRITUAL CARE: ~40%
• In conjunction with the steering committee, has accountability for planning the current contemporary early morning Sunday service, “Fresh Start”. Oversees potential alterations* to the format while keeping the upbeat contemporary tone. Considerations would include speakers, music and social media presence
• Partners with the Lead Minister to seek traditional and new forms of faith development for all ages and for a range from the well-studied to new Christians. An interest or experience in the Alpha would be an asset
• Supports a Sunday School program, seeking to maximize use of the full curriculum, including available online activities and other tactics
• Working with our lay leaders you may contribute to faith events that might include evening community worship and family faith development events
*Note: We are currently reviewing our “Fresh Start” service with the objective of optimizing this component of our spiritual care. The outcome of this review is planned for September. Responsibility for this initiative will remain with the Minister of Care and Community.
ENGAGEMENT/COMMUNITY BUILDING: ~35%
• Engages new members, strengthens current relationships and looks to transform the connection between the broader community and Kingsway-Lambton congregants
• Invigorates participation and engagement in the Church as well as devising methods to engage new members, seeking to transition people who participate in major events only to interact with K-L at other opportunities
• Supports faith-based and other events throughout the year to encourage the community at large to see Kingsway-Lambton as a place of comfort, joy and a fun place to come
• Provides spiritual guidance and support for the annual Christmas Pageant, a tradition in the community since 1937
• Actively engages in the life of Shining Waters Regional Council and/or General Council
TEAM MINISTRY and ADMINISTRATION
• Participates in Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals and all facets of church life as required
• Partners with all members of the Kingsway-Lambton staff, enabling each individual to make a significant contribution to the spiritual health and vibrancy of church life
• Prepares reports and attends Council meetings, and other Committee/Ministry meetings as appropriate.
• Joins actively with the designated Ministry and Personnel Committee representative in the performance management process
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
• The Minister of Care and Community is accountable to the congregation through the Council to Shining Waters Regional Council.
• Works collaboratively with the Lead Minister and lay staff in a team ministry
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ordained Minister or Diaconal Minister, or enrolled as a Student of Divinity or Theology, or equivalent (preference for ordained or near graduating)
• Must have good interpersonal skills to work well with colleagues, superiors, volunteers, guests, and the congregation members as a whole
• Works independently and must be comfortable making independent decisions when circumstances warrant
• Strong multi-tasker; must be able to manage time, and multiple tasks and projects
• A clear Police Records check must be attested via Church Hub and updated every three years thereafter
• A driver’s license would be an asset

• Pursues personal, vocational, and professional goals for continuing education in consultation with the M&P Committee
• Is involved in the life of the Shining Waters Regional Council and/or General Council
• Sets goals for ongoing self-care by maintaining a healthy balance of one’s own physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being to include rest, recreation, and professional development and collaborates with the M&P Committee to meet goals.
